What to do
in the
Winter Park
Area
Nestled between the Mountains of
Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapaho National Forest, Winter Park
and Fraser offer a wide range of high-altitude activities – all summer and
all winter. Even the continental divide is just a moderate (albeit
up-hill) mountain bike ride from The Rocky Mountain Inn.
Besides renowned mountain biking
on some of the finest single-track in the country and first-rate downhill
skiing at one of the snowiest resorts in the state (averaging 360 inches
of snow a year). This area also has other great things to do including
 |
Rafting – Wherever the
water is running, be it the Colorado River, Clear Creek or somewhere
else, the local rafting guides and outfitters will take you when you
want to go. Click here for a list of some of the rafting companies
available in Grand County:

|
 |

Rodeo
– The “High Country Stampede” rodeo happens every Saturday night
during the summer. The rodeo grounds are just a mile or so from The
Inn.
|
 |
Fishing – Ply the same
waters as President “Ike” Eisenhower fished nearly 50 years ago, this
area was once known as the “Western White House” due to Ike’s frequent
fishing diversions. We’re also just down the road from the Colorado
River headwaters and some great water in between.
|
 |
Bicycling
– Can’t say enough about it – the “King of the Rockies” Bike Race is
even bad enough for Lance Armstrong to drop by. With over 600
miles of mapped trails (and a bunch more -- if you can sweet-talk a
local into showing you), you'll get your heart pounding and your
adrenaline flowing -- and keep it that way the whole time you're here.
|
 |
Skiing/Snowboarding
– Consistently voted “Colorado’s Favorite Ski Resort”, The Winter Park
Ski resort is in a league of it’s own, and we’re also a short drive to
the ripping back-country of Berthoud Pass, and the Family-oriented Sol
Vista Ski resorts. |
 |
Golf – For information
about the award-winning Pole Creek Golf Course, click here
www.polecreekgolf.com/index.html. We’re just down the road from a
top-50 27 hole course. Or check out the recently opened Sol Vista
Golf Course by clicking here
www.solvista.com/summerhome/index.html. In addition, several more
golf courses are currently being built.
|
 |
Hiking – Pick a direction
and go! There are more Elk in this county than people and they’ll
happily share their forests and mountains with you.
|
 |

Rock Climbing – A lot of people don’t know it yet, but we’ve also
got some great rock-climbing here; this is one of Fraser Valley’s best
kept secrets …for now. |
 |
Snow Tubing – The tubing
hill is a short walk away, just in case you need a day off of skiing.
|
 |
Sight-seeing – We are
right at the footsteps of the Arapaho National Forest, the Rocky
Mountain National Forest and the Indian Peaks Wilderness area. Take
your pick, you won’t run out of forest. You can find information
about Rocky Mountain National Park by clicking here:
www.nps.gov/romo
|
 |

Lake
Sports – We are only a few miles away from Williams Fork
Reservoir, Willow creek reservoir, Monarch lake, Meadow Creek Lake,
Granby Reservoir, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, and Grand Lake. You can
fish, windsurf, sail, water-ski, or just have a picnic at some of the
highest lakes in the country. For more information, check out:
www.trailridgemarina.com/home/excursion.html
|
 |
Events – From the Winter
Park mountain bike race series to the chili-cook off …to say nothing
of the legendary KBCO rock-fest and Jazz festivals every summer.
|
…not only does the Rocky Mountain Inn
offer great deals on lodging, we also offer discounted rates for
rafting, bike rentals, ski rentals, lift tickets, and local restaurants.
